Week of October 9, 2023

What an incredible staff you are.  Thank you for preparing and hosting your learner-led conferences.  I know you have all spent a great deal of time preparing with your children.  What a great time to build connections with our famiLEEs.  I want you to know I appreciate all of your hard work to communicate the strengths and areas for growth on each child.  If a parent did not attend the conference on the designated days, please do your best to set up an alternative time/method to review data with them.  Also, remember to document the conference in Panorama!  Enjoy the three day weekend- YOU DESERVE IT!

DID YOU KNOW:

  • doors will be keyed down and parents should come straight to your spaces for conferences on Friday?  We are having the office team use comp hours on Friday.
  • there is a WONDERFUL resource for parents through the DLC Bulb?  Please share this website with Family Resources to help support parents with their learner's at-home technology.
  • parents can sign up to attend lunches on Fridays?  Lunch with Your Lee Learner Google Form is open.  Please post in your weekly newsletters.
  • we have a PTO parent that wants to help you when you need volunteers for an event or class?  Please reach out to Julie McConnell for assistance.  Her email is: juliescottmcconnell@gmail.com
  • Kindergarten will have their Community Helper parade at 8:00 on Friday morning?  Please have a seat around the downstairs loop to show support of your kinder friends.

THANK YOU TO OUR CUSTODIANS
Thank you Social Spurs for helping to celebrate our fantastic custodial team.

THANK YOU SAMIRA
Tomorrow, October 6, is National Instructional Coaches Day.  Join me in thanking Samira, for leading us all so well.  She answers ALL the questions, runs ALL the reports, and is patient with ALL of us as we ask questions.  We appreciate you loads, Samira!

NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH WEEK
The week of October 9-13 is National School Lunch Week.  This year's theme is "Level Up with School Lunch!"  We will highlight all the important aspects of a healthy school lunch each day on morning broadcast.

VIRTUAL PTO MEETING
We have our second VIRTUAL PTO Meeting on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.  A Zoom link will be emailed to parents through Parent Square on Tuesday morning. Plan to learn about important and exciting updates from your PTO Team and Principal.

REVISITING RESPECT AGREEMENTS
Please revisit and update respect agreements with your classes for the 2nd 9 weeks.  Remember there should be FOUR quadrants: Learner to Learner, Learner to Designer, Designer to Learner, and Learner to School.  All four quadrants should have 3 to 4 bullets with short phrases (ex: be honest, hands to self, feet off furniture, etc.) replacing negative words like don't and never.

MORNING MEETINGS
Class circles are going to help learners (and you) as we maintain relationships.  THEY ARE A REQUIREMENT IN CISD.  They provide social/emotional support in your space.  You should have a structure within the class meeting to foster authentic relationships, provide safety for everyone's voice to be heard and allow vulnerability to occur.  Class meetings build secure relationships in a safe and structured setting.  If you need "talking pieces" please see Angela or Jessica. Ask your learners what they want to use. We are happy to purchase talking pieces for you, if you submit a PO.  Remember to be completing your Second Step lessons once a week.

REPORT CARD COMMENTS

As you work on adding comments to K-3 report cards, remember that comments can extend beyond the classroom and influence a child's self-esteem, motivation, and future learning experiences.  Meaningful comments can inspire life long love of learning and personal growth.  Need some ideas or a place to start?  Here are some.

WALKTHROUGHS IN OCTOBER

Don't forget to read feedback and sign off on your first walkthrough.  For this month, we will be giving you feedback on Domain 2.4: Differentiation. We will be looking for:

  • Individualized Lessons

  • Monitoring participation and performance

  • Recognizing confusion and disengagement

  • Addressing the SEL needs of learners

  • Varied instructional strategies used to meet the needs of ALL learners (SpEd, EB, GT, etc)

  • Flexible Grouping

  • Product, process, content, environment

If you want any support to achieve these bullets, set up a time with Samira, Julie, Ayesha, Kara, Yanet, or your Admin Team.

RED RIBBON WEEK APPROACHING IN TWO WEEKS
We will participate in these Spirit Days the last week in October in celebration of Red Ribbon Week.

Teachers...this applies to YOU, TOO!  If not, we highly recommend you do this ASAP.  Our PTO website Membership Toolkit allows us, your PTO, to share important information with you throughout the year.  This is PTO's primary source of communication with you.  Please log in today to create your account or update your information for this year.  Volunteering and PTO membership are not required when you create an account, though we are always happy to have you join us!  https://rjleepto.membershiptoolkit.com/
