ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
Free reading is the best way for our students to become better readers. Read more. Read, read, read. When we assign students what they must read, they usually don’t want to read it and many of them don’t read it. But if we give them choice in their reading and the time to read, it becomes less constraining. We can’t rely on letting students read at home. That won’t always happen and we can’t control what happens at home. But what we can control is creating an environment where reading is pleasurable and inviting. We can provide daily time for our students to read.

STAFFING UPDATES
Our interview team has been BUSY and we have recommended some great people for hire for next year.  With 4 growth positions and people moving into new seasons in their lives, we will do our best to keep you updated with our hires.

My name is Ellison Lunde, and I will be a second-year teacher next year! I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and Frisco, Texas. I am a huge fan of my parents' goldendoodle, Nala, and binging Netflix on the weekends! I graduated with both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Abilene Christian University. During my graduate year, I conducted research focused on the power of growth mindset literature in the classroom. This school year, I taught second-grade in a departmentalized ELAR setting. I am beyond excited to continue teaching next year at Lee. I cannot wait to become a Spur!

Ms. Toledo is originally from Caracas, Venezuela and grew up in Alvin, TX. She graduated from Baylor University with her BSEd in Elementary Education in 2019 and her MSEd in Educational Psychology in 2020. Since then, she has taught 3rd grade in the Waco area. Ms. Toledo loves coffee, pizza, beach trips, and her dog Stella! During her free time, she can be found catching up on her Goodreads reading challenges, watching New Girl on Netflix, hanging out with friends, or trying to figure out the day’s Wordle. She is so excited to be a part of Lee Elementary next year and get to know everyone!

Hello Everyone,
I am happy to be a part of the FamiLEE!  I have taught PE at the same Irving Elementary School for the last 16 years & can't wait to share my joy & passion for movement with the Spurs :)
I have also spent the last 16 years married to my beautiful wife Meghan, who is a Kindergarten teacher at Canyon Ranch... & in the last 7, we've added Maddy & Max.
I obviously enjoy sports & exercise, but also have a love for music... especially the guitar & drums.
I can't wait to see everyone in August!  Take care,
Curtis Tinsley
