ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
Don’t underestimate (or forget!) the power of choral reading. Choral reading allows EBs to practice their reading fluency, pronunciation, and their ability to read sight words. Not only that, but it gives a safe space for mistakes to be made since they are doing it with a group of learners. This practice can help build their self confidence with reading. All readers will benefit from this simple practice!

COPPELL EDUCATION FOUNDATION
You have ONE MORE WEEK TO REGISTER!
Run to Fund

ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
Provide opportunities for free write time. This helps lower the affective filter when EBs approach writing in English, especially those that may have some anxiety around writing specifically. If you have an EB who is Beginning or Intermediate, allow some of their writing to include pictures or copying words. This is still helping them to grow in their English proficiency.

WELCOME TO OUR FAMILEE

REMINDER:  SPRING CONFERENCES
You should be planning for your Spring Conferences and advertising in your weekly newsletters starting now.  Please give due diligence to make contact with all parents to review their learner's data and goal setting.  When at all possible, the learners should be involved in these conferences.  Keep documentation of parents who do/do not attend conferences.  During your time together, I would encourage you to listen for in case a parent would like to make a change in house for the 2023-2024 school year, wants specialized testing, or is considering retention.  Please write these requests down and EMAIL them to Chantel, Leigh Ann, and Angel.  This makes sure that we have a second layer of accountability as we transition to the next school year.  In addition, remind parents that we DO NOT take requests for house colors or designers and we do our best to have siblings in the same house, but cannot always guarantee it.  We do our very BEST to keep as many learners in their house when we loop up, but we sometimes have to move learners when balancing our building each year.  Parents WILL be notified by campus administration before Meet the Designer Night, if their learner is being moved. Please ask me if you have any questions!!!

ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
Academic vocabulary is more important than ever this time of year. Utilize different methods of reviewing academic vocabulary such as games, thinking maps, or visuals. EB’s will more likely remember definitions when they are reviewed in multiple ways, and used authentically in conversation.

LEE LIFE PRINCIPLE:
Friendship- caring for; trusting one another

LESSON IN LEADERSHIP:
Do not save seats in the lunchroom.  If someone wants to sit down, let him or her.  Do not try to exclude anyone.  We are a family , and we must treat one another with respect and kindness.
