Week of July 26, 2021

It has been a wonderful first week back for Leigh Ann, Shanna and I.  I even have an Admin Intern this year so welcome to Hannah Barley!!  We have been working behind the scenes to set up the 2021-2022 school year.  We are super excited for the upcoming school year with all of you being part of our FamiLEE!   We have our Administrator's Academy this week, so there will be more information to share in my next blog.

DID YOU KNOW:

  • you can order your 2021-2022 CISD Education Foundation t-shirt now?  If you purchase this year's shirt, Dr. Hunt has given permission to wear it with jeans EVERY TUESDAY.  Orders received by July 25 will be delivered for the first week of school.
  • that compliance courses should be coming out from the district after July 28?  I promise as soon as they are shared with me, I will push out to you so that those of you that want to get done early, CAN.  Thanks for your patience, we usually have them by now.

WELCOME TO OUR FAMILEE

Hi, I'm Mary Nielsen and very excited to be joining Lee Elementary as a Special Education Teacher.  This will be my fourth year teaching Special Ed.  I became a sub when my oldest started Kindergarten in Florida (I miss the beach being so close). When we moved back to Texas, I continued subbing for five years then moved into a paraprofessional position.  I have two wonderful sons, Nick, 21 and Spencer, 19.  They are both working and taking college courses.  We have two very energetic and fun fur babies.  I enjoy walking, being outside, reading, and spending time with my family.

KEYS AND BADGES
Each staff member should have keys to their Design Studio and Storage Room for their House. If you are in a classroom, you should also have a key to the classroom. If you are in need of these keys (or any others), please indicate that in this form or reach out to Leigh Ann. If members of your House have moved spaces, please check with them, first, to trade keys for the appropriate spaces. Specialists, please switch house keys with one another.

FURNITURE AT LEE
We do our best to ensure that there is equitable distribution of furniture in houses. Please do not "borrow" furniture from the media center, A120, A118, or other places in the building.  Let Leigh Ann know if you have extra, or are short, and she can help you problem solve.   Here is the breakdown of furniture.  Please cross check it with what is in your house in case it got moved while cleaning this summer.  If you are a special program designer and need additional/different furniture, please fill out a furniture request form.

NEW HIRES
As a new hire, I am sure you are thinking about what you can do to start getting ready for your new adventure at Lee.  Each blog I pepper out some suggestions so that you are not too overwhelmed during Back to School.  This blog I would encourage you to:
  1. Please send a bitmoji headshot of yourself to Leigh Ann to add to our FamiLEE tree wall.
  2. Check out our Faculty Website.  You will want to bookmark this site as it is a one stop shop that has all you need to know about Lee Elementary and MORE!
  3. Connect with your House and Grade leads.  You can find their name on this staffing list and email them.  I know they will want to get your phone number to share with teammates.
It is OKAY if you are taking this time for YOU- please do not feel guilt if you wait until you are on contract.

TO DO FOR ALL:
  • Sign up for your health care with our benefits department.
  • Fill out this form so we can learn all about your favorites.  It also helps us with ordering your school shirts for the school year.
  • Read the RJL Campus Handbook, NOW, so you don't have to worry about it when school is in session.  We request you read this by August 31.  New/changed items are highlighted in yellow.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
You will be required to earn 24 hours of Flex Time for the 2021-2022 school year and you can start accumulating your time over the summer.  Paraprofessionals, you will need 32 hours.  Here are two separate AWESOME and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED opportunities from Apple.  If you participate, please document in Bulb and we will grant flex credit.

If you were unable to attend the live webinars on June 15, you can still earn Flex and SBEC credit all summer! Follow the steps outlined below.

To earn credit after June 15th for watching a recorded webinar from 6.15.21:
To earn credit after June 15th for completing a self-paced course in Schoology:If you’d like to watch me demonstrate the steps to successfully participate in self-paced learning this summer, you may choose to watch this video.
