Week of October 9, 2017

THANK YOU for all of your efforts this week!  House meetings were exceptional and there was super effort put forth with your next CBL Big Ideas.  Way to keep pushing yourself outside your comfort zones to give learners the time and guidance they need to be true problem seekers and solvers.  Enjoy the three day weekend.  It's hard to believe the first quarter ends next Friday!

DID YOU KNOW:

  • that we have purchased Flipgrid subscriptions for each grade/house designer and the Media Center?  You should have gotten an email from them today.  Need ideas?  Get with Alli or check out some ideas here
  • that we are working on a comprehensive list of digital resources that you have access to?  Check out our list here and ask questions if you have them!
  • since we have conferences on Friday, that Thursday will be our Spirit Day?  Please feel free to wear jeans on Thursday with a school shirt.  Can I get an "oh yeah" for jeans all week this week?

STOP COLLABORATE AND LISTEN
THANK YOU to those of you that have signed up to attend these sessions this week.  Remember, they will focus on learning for the upcoming 9 weeks.  You will get flex hours for attending.

PTO MEETING
Please make sure your have a learner, or learners, prepared to give your house CBL Updates at 7:00 on Tuesday night.  This is always a highlight and informs parents what houses have focused on in the last month.

STAFF MEETING
We will meet in Hillary's space.  We will take some time to break out into our committees (recycling, composting, gardening, eco pond) for some design time.  Please be prepared to come with open minds and some ideas you would like to implement this school year.

HOMECOMING
Please turn in learner permission slips BY TUESDAY (you were also sent an electronic copy you can email home to your member).  We need to know who will/will not be participating.  You are welcome to join us and walk along side the float, if you want.  Let us know if you need details about times/locations.

SPIRIT RALLY
At the end of each quarter we will come together as a family and meet in our gym.  It is a super fun event where we focus on celebrations and enjoying one another.  Please be prepared to participate if
we have a teacher/learner event.  Remind your learners to wear their house color shirts!

LEEDERSHIP COUNCIL
First, THANK YOU for sending your learners with devices to our meetings.  This includes our youngest members.  They need to be able to go to our notes, and our older housemates can help show them where to go.  I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE when you give your LEEder time to share the day we meet.  Quite often, they have a task or assignment that requires input from their peers.  They do not need to take up a substantial amount of your time, but MUST have time to share after each meeting.  I will be taking your 4th and 5th grade LEEdership Council members to Mockingbird on Friday.  Please make sure I get their permission slips immediately (also emailed a copy to you).  We have paid to send them.  If any 4th or 5th grader cannot attend, I need to be able to invite some 3rd graders in their place.  THANK YOU for your help with this!

CISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION GRANTS
Do you have an innovative idea that you would like the Education Foundation to help pay for? Grants must be Principal approved and are due October 18.  GOOD LUCK!

RED AND BLACK SUPERSTARS AND CISD GEMS
We have so many incredibly talented folks and people that go above and beyond at our school. Please take time to nominate them through one of these recognition programs.  GEM nominations can be found in Eduphoria under Forms.  Red and Black winners will be recognized at our Spirit Rally by Bennett Ratliff.  GEMS are recognized before school board meetings by Anthony Hill.

WEEKLY WALKTHROUGH FOCUS:
This week we will give you feedback on Domain 3.1: Learning Environment for two more weeks.  We will look at your physical and virtual environment.  We will also be looking at what your learners are doing, what transitions look like, that all subject areas are displayed in anchor charts, that learning objectives are posted, that there is current learner work displayed, and that you have CBL evidenced in your space.

Keep in mind with THREE administrators, there is a chance that you could have walkthroughs three weeks in a row, out of four.  We have a system and you should not have more than one per week.  Please take time to view your walkthroughs and provide comments back, if necessary.  These are intended for GROWTH!

ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK:
Use appropriate questioning techniques such as wait time and periodic comprehension checks.

LEE LIFE PRINCIPLE:
Self-Discipline- the ability to choose and control one's own actions

LESSON IN LEADERSHIP:
Make eye contact.  When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her at all times.  If someone makes a comment, turn and face that person.

LEE QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"If we were supposed to talk more than listen, we would have two mouths and one ear." - Mark Twain

  1. I love the digital resource guide! That is going to be so helpful! One thing that can also be helpful is Classlink - link.coppellisd.com and the CISD Classlink app. Learners login to Classlink and have access to some of these digital resources without having to navigate and login in a bunch of times. Here is a blog post about it in case anyone wants to learn more!! https://diaryofadlc.blogspot.com/2017/01/tmst-classlink-resolutions.html
