Week of September 5, 2022

Thank you for your attention with the CRASE training after school yesterday.  I looked around at our group and smiled inside because I was reminded what an incredible staff we have.  In the next two days, please give yourself 60 seconds to stop what you are doing, pause, and celebrate what you have accomplished so far this school year.  YOU ARE AMAZING! We could not be more pleased with the first two and a half weeks of school and what you are part of creating at Lee!!!  Have an incredible L-O-N-G weekend!

DID YOU KNOW:
  • there are a LOT of open spots for Goal Setting Sign Ups? ALL staff members (except those who have scheduled with me with their department heads) need a spot.  Please sign up this week.
  • we will have an adjusted schedule next Friday for PTO Presentations for K-2 and 3-5?  Please click the appropriate tab to make sure you see alternate specials times.
  • that Keiko is officially a temporary employee of Lee Elementary, again?  We are so excited that she can be PAID for all of the work she does with your classrooms and in our outdoor learning garden.  YAY!  Thank you to those of you that have signed up to work with her in the garden and outdoor spaces.  She will have school email again, soon.
  • lunches dropped off at the front door will be placed by front office door.  You will not get an email or Teams message if the lunch is brought to school.  It is a good idea to have learners looking for their lunch to check in the front if they are expecting one or don't have one.  Please remind parents at Curriculum Night that we are growing responsible and independent learners.  We do not encourage dropping off personal items after arrival.  We cannot ensure they will get where they are needed.
  • Alli is collecting info from our team in the area of technology professional learning?  Please take time to fill out her needs assessment
  • Sri is your new point of contact for laminating and color copies?  Brandy is all things budget and your sub requests.  Vanessa is attendance and tardies.   We are trying to help with "point people positions" so you know who to go to.  If you need help, just ask!

CURRICULUM NIGHT
Thank you for welcoming our FamiLEEs to your spaces and to Specials and Support Staff for directing parents where to go tonight.  This is your second impression with your famiLEEs so make sure your space is tidy, learner work is displayed and there is evidence of the great teaching that has occurred these first two weeks.  Grade leaders, please share your FAQ documents with me.  I will look over for approval and make sure there is a quick turnaround.   Don't forget to share your presentation (including speaker notes for those who don't attend) in this week's newsletter.

PTO CORNER
Mark your calendars for the first PTO meeting this school year:  Tuesday, September 13, at 6PM via Zoom.

COLLEGE SHIRT DAY
The first Wednesday of every month we celebrate higher education.  We encourage our learners and staff to wear college shirts on these days.

SPIRIT WEAR
Every Friday is Spirit Shirt Day at Lee Elementary.  You can order your school spirit wear today! This year the gray color lets you show off your school spirit no matter what house you are in! https://tshirtsfromtexas.com/leespiritwear/

BUDGET
We are excited that we now have our 2022-2023 budget dollars to order what you need to work with your learners.  Part of my role is to make sure you have the supplies you need to do your job.  Please try to plan ahead so that you do not have to spend personal funds on supplies.  Also, be thinking about items we need to add to house storage closets (like manipulatives, science tools, etc.) and write up a PO and put it in my box.  Remember that it will take a couple of weeks to process, get quotes, and ship.  Please do not turn in a PO unless you have verified that your order is from an approved vendor.  In addition, if you are ordering from Amazon, a copy of the cart should be attached to the PO.

For those of you that already put POs in my box for this year, they will be processed this week.

STAFF DRESS CODE
Remember that jeans are permitted at Lee, but if you have district training (like reading academies), please be in business casual attire (unless CISD communicates otherwise).  In addition, other than PE, no warm ups or yoga pants until communicated by Admin.  Thank you!

RESPECT AGREEMENTS
Please email a photo of your respect agreement to Leigh Ann and Angel so that they can put it in the office Discipline Binder.  We will refer to your respect agreements when learners have behavior reflections.  Remember that there should only be 3-4 bulleted expectations in each quadrant.  There are so many great examples, but here are some samples of what treatment agreements could look like.

CISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION
CISD Ed Foundation grants are open through midnight September 12.  If you submitted an application last year, log-in credentials are still valid.  This is a SUPER avenue to get items for your classroom that cannot be purchased through approved vendors.   GOOD LUCK!

You can order your 2022-2023 CISD Education Foundation t-shirt now?  If you purchase this year's shirt, Dr. Hunt has given permission to wear it with jeans EVERY TUESDAY.  Orders will only be accepted through Friday, September 9.

COACH'S CORNER

ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK

Know, Pronounce, & Use their Names. That’s right. Validating a student’s identity with their given name is important. Avoid making an “American” name for a child. If you aren’t sure how to pronounce a name, ask, repeatedly if needed. Some teachers have students record how they prefer to be called on Flipgrid. This allows the teacher and classmates to replay the video/sound at their leisure as many times as necessary.
