April 7, 2025

Last Friday, I participated in a two hour webinar through TEPSA.  It couldn't have been at a better time.  It helped remind me that being an educator is the BEST profession in the world and Lee Elementary is the BEST place to be!  Why do I feel this way?  Because of EACH OF YOU, OUR KIDS, OUR FAMILEES!!  From my heart- our children and famiLEEs are blessed to have YOU caring for them 8 hours a day!  I hope you know how much you matter.  I am off on Friday.  If you need anything, please reach out to Angel.  HAPPY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL WEEK ANGEL AND KAT!

  • if you are getting a service award for being a 5, 10, 15+ year employee, you will get an email from Marnie Wallen to "shop" for your gift?  This is not spam!  We can't wait to hear what you ordered at our last staff meeting.
  • Layne won Ms. Baird's Teacher on the Rise recognition today  She received a beautiful nomination, a fabulous basket of goodies, and two generous gift cards.  Congratulations!!!

SPRING CONFERENCES

You will want to begin planning for your Spring Conferences starting now.  We will discuss your house conference date/time in our Leadership Meeting on Wednesday, so have some talk as a house as to your preferences.  Please give due diligence to make contact with all parents to review their learner's data and goal setting.  Keep documentation of parents who do/do not attend conferences.  During your time together, I would encourage you to listen for in case a parent would like to make a change in house for the 2025-2026 school year, wants specialized testing, or is considering retention.  Please write these requests down and EMAIL them to Chantel, Kat, and Angel.  This makes sure that we have a second layer of accountability as we transition to the next school year.  In addition, remind parents that we DO NOT take requests for house colors or designers and we do our best to have siblings in the same house, but cannot always guarantee it.  We do our very BEST to keep as many learners in their house when we loop up, but we sometimes have to move learners when balancing our building each year.  For example, we have 6 sections of 4th grade.  We know that some learners will be moved as we build 5 fifth grade classes.  We want parents to know NOW, so there are no surprises.  Please ask me if you have any questions!!!

Connections Game with Flippity
The Flippity Group Game is a word puzzle that challenges players to categorize 16 words into four distinct groups of four, each connected by a common theme. If you are familiar with the New York Times Connections game – this is the puzzle maker for this game.  In the NYT Connections you are allowed only four wrong guesses but in Flippity you can make over 20 mistakes.  Each group is assigned a color which is revealed when you choose the four words correctly. RAZ-Plus Resources you should check out!

Phonics Packs

Each phonics pack provides multi-day instruction on a specific phonetic element for students who have not yet mastered word-attack skills. Instruction focuses on sound-symbol relationships in a predetermined sequence that allows students to build on previous knowledge to develop critical decoding skills through word blending, segmenting, and manipulation. Each pack includes a lesson plan, picture cards, letter cards, sound/letter mats, and practice sheets.

Comprehension Skill Packs (Interactive)

Give students direct and explicit instruction on key comprehension skills with Comprehension Skill Packs. Each lesson plan follows the teach, practice, and apply instructional approach to support students as they build meaning from texts.

Paired Books

Promote higher-order thinking, such as making comparisons among texts, with Paired Books, which features three types of pairings: fiction-nonfiction, fiction-fiction, and nonfiction-nonfiction. Students first answer text-dependent questions about each text separately, and then about both texts combined. Answers to these questions guide student response to an overall key question. Each lesson has a graphic organizer used to record information related to each question set. Students cite evidence in support of an answer.

💎Classroom Tech Treasures

This Canva presentation is a ready-to-go activity for you, and you can modify the template to suit your needs. Each slide has four options, and the participant decides which doesn’t belong. There isn’t just one correct answer for most, and it’s interesting to hear what object students pick and why. Have your students give their reason and participate in the lively discussions!
