Thank you for a wonderful LAST WEEK of school with our learners.  It has been such fun to travel through the building and see the memorable experiences you have provided our learners.  Thank you for ensuring that learning happens until the last day at Lee!

SPIRIT RALLY

We will start Spirit Rally at 8:15 tomorrow morning.   I know we have posted 8:00, but please take time to welcome each learner to your space this last day.  The last two mornings have been rushed (for a good reason), and now you will have time to enjoy this last morning with your friends.

We will call you down by houses starting 8:00.  Please, if you could, have learners who are getting awards sit at the front of your house (on the floor).  This will help speed up the process of awards.  

There will be a staff/learner event at the conclusion, so BE READY!  

YEARBOOK SIGNING

We will host yearbook signing from 10:00-11:00.  Learners may visit spaces around the building for signatures IF they have a yearbook.  Todd, Angela, Specialists, and I will be in the Media Center to sign yearbooks.

SUMMER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Don't forget to sign up here for summer learning in CISD.  If you have to back out of attending, please make sure you unenroll.  Please remember that when you attend events outside of Lee that you represent our school.  Please be respectful of presenters, use technology appropriately, and enjoy learning from others.

CHECKING OUT/ORANGE SHEETS

Under the Front Office Section, the Summer 201 Device Checkout Agreement box can be checked for ALL.  This is part of the district staff handbook.  Please remember, and be advised, that technology is YOUR responsibility and you are financially responsible for any damage/loss.  Please view previous blog for insurance options. 

Have your orange sheets completely filled out and ready.  We will begin checking out houses at 2:00 and work as quickly as possible.   Exit interviews (in Eduphoria) for departing staff members will happen when we get to your house.

THANK YOU for another incredible year at our school.  #RJLYEAR2 was the massive success it was because of each and every one of you.  Your hard work, dedication, perseverance, and genuine love of children goes unmatched and you are applauded for all that you have contributed to making our school the fine place that it is!  I hope you will always remember that you were carefully selected to be here because of the gifts and talents that you possess.  Sometimes you already knew them, other times we brought them out of you.  The special and unique blessing is that we are each on our own journey, yet we can all reflect back over the last year and see that we are better because of each other. 

It will be sad to see some of our famiLEE move on to different paths, however, I feel confident that the bonds, connections, and lessons you have made here will have a positive impact on you in the future.  You will forever be a Lee Spur famiLEE member, and we wish you nothing less than the best. Please keep in touch! 

Enjoy your THREE DAY weekend as you get ready for the last (sort of) week of school.  We know this is the greatest school, with the greatest staff and learners.  We only get the learners 187 days, so make the most of these last 3 1/2 with them!  THEY ADORE YOU!  AS DO I!

• if your learners do not pick up their medication by the last day of school that it will be discarded?  Please inform your parents!
• we hired another famiLEE member?  Her name is Jessica Stow and she is moving here from Tulsa, OK.  She visited Lee today, so some of you had a chance to meet her.  She will be teaching 3rd grade in Purple House.
• that iStation will be available to our learners during the summer?  It's true!
• Todd has a heartfelt thank you and goodbye blog post to share with you?  Check it out here.
• Katie will be in Y4 next year, Alex will be in G2, and Nick will be in R4 and on Leadership Team?  These placements are always subject to change, but are current as of today.

SUICIDE PREVENTION

Please read this memo regarding required suicide prevention for all CISD employees.  Online training must be completed by May 31 and documentation will need to be provided to Angela before then.

CISD LEARNING FRAMEWORK REVIEW: LEARNING

This week we will spend our second week reviewing learning design.  Educators utilize standards and future ready outcomes to to design constructivist experiences that facilitate the learners' conceptional development and deepen understanding as they construct meaning of the world.  Let's review responsive learning.  According to our CISD Educator Evaluation System: the educator approaches learning design in a way that reflects the diversity of each learner's prior experiences and skills and takes into account his/her learning style, multiple intelligences, and interests while incorporating the learner's voice in both process and product. 

• consistently organizes flexible grouping based on learners interested, multiple intelligences, socioeconomic/cultural background, gender, other assessment data

Think about where you are with your PLCs and the creation of your common formative assessments.  Are you using these to flexibly group learners?  Outside of CBL, are you giving learners choice in product and process as well as organizing them by their interests or other areas?

JRFH PEP RALLY

Please join us in the gym on Thursday to help kick off our Jump Rope For Heart Program in PE. Learners will be reviewing how to stay heart healthy, practice jumping in PE, and watch a jumping demonstration as a school.   If this is during your conference time, please let Specials Designers take care of your learners during this time.

SPIRIT STICKS

LEEdership Council will sell Super Hero spirit sticks during their recess this week.  Grade 1, 3, and 5 council members will sell during Thursday's recess and grade K, 2, and 4 council members will sell during Friday's recess.  Please advertise this in your weekly email to parents.

What a fantastic week back from Winter Break.  I enjoyed being in classrooms, again, and seeing the incredible instruction that you deliver and provide our learners.  It was evident that you all took time to RECHARGE over the break.  THANK YOU!!

Great work was done to prepare for our Saturday MATHurday.  I enjoyed checking out your planning resources online.  Todd will be creating a flyer to send home to spread the word.

I want ask you to reflect about our guiding purpose for a moment.  We are deep enough in our PLC book study to understand the importance of shared commitment and values. We came together as a staff and agreed upon this vision.  You have included the guiding purpose in our email signatures, and now you are posting it in your spaces.  Do you think this is enough?

PLC BOOK STUDY
Todd and I appreciate your efforts to get caught up on our book study over the break.  I enjoyed reading your discussion responses and commenting on them.  If you have time, you might want to check out what your peers have posted.  I know I have a broader perspective after reading how people responded.  I want to complement you on your honesty and transparency in your replies.  It is nice to know that people feel safe to do so at Lee!  New due dates are posted in our Schoology course and on the staff calendar.  By Friday the new discussion questions and action items will be posted. Leadership team, it is a GREAT idea to get our book study on your meeting agendas.


CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN
I request that in Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday's house PLC that ALL staff members review our Campus Improvement Plan.  This plan clearly states our campus shared goals for this year. Have you ever wondered where these goals originate?  They begin by being based on the District Improvement Plan.  We then add in campus specific growth points and goals established from parent surveys, our leadership team, and campus needs assessments.  

Leadership Team, do you remember how we documented during our first Site-Based Meeting by going through each action step and writing evidence in the last column?  As a house and Specials Team, document what your group has as evidence of achieving our shared goals.  Remember, this is a working document that brings common focus for all of us on campus.  When you review it, you will see HOW MUCH you have already accomplished these first two nine weeks and how we are working together as a school to make a difference.  WAY TO GO!  

WFTBB UPDATE

Remember Brenda from our December training?  She will be here twice next week to lend Writing support. On Monday, she and I will participate in learning walks through your spaces.  We will be looking for integration of Thinking Maps and also be observing writing lessons.  On Thursday, she will participate in your house meetings.  This is an IDEAL time to share with her where you want and need support.  She will be coming back on February 15 for campus-wide professional learning in Expository Writing.

SOCIAL SPURS BREAKFAST

Instead of lunch, Red House will be providing breakfast on Friday.  More information will be coming your way, so mark your calendar.  Thanks Red House!

SPIRIT RALLY

Please be in the gym and ready to go by 8:15 on Friday.  We are going to try something NEW this time...we will sit as HOUSES during Spirit Rally.  A map will come your way before Friday.  The office will start calling down HOUSES at 8:00.  Designers, please sit mixed in the bleachers and on the floor with your learners during the assembly.  

MID YEAR GOAL SETTING CONFERENCES

Please sign up for a middle of the year conference with Todd and I.  During this time, we will review how you are progressing with your goals, review completed walkthroughs and observations, seek input from you, and find out as an administrative team how we can support you. ALL staff needs to sign up for face time with us.

• All, except 5, of our learners were given permission to attend a school-sponsored field trips when they were enrolled using Infosnap?  This means that a “permission” slip is not required but you will still need to communicate specific details about the trip.  A parent could decide that their child should not attend a specific trip.  This permission does not include trips such as Austin or Allaso Ranch, but includes everything else in the DFW area.

WRITE A CHECK

Thank you ALL for your excitement with our Write a Check fundraising.  We know it is because of YOU that learners are bringing in their acknowledgement sheets and donations.  Thank you for your continued HYPE!

SPIRIT RALLY
We will start our Spirit Rally at 8:05.  3-5 will sit in the bleachers with K in front of 3rd (closest to water fountains), 1st in front of 5th (center of the bleachers), and 2nd in front of 3rd (closest to the gardens).  If you have learners in Instrumental Ensemble, please have them sit in the front row of the fifth grade bleachers so that they can easily get out to perform.  Please follow this grade level schedule and inform your parents of adjusted lunch times for this day.


TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Please use the following link to nominate a colleague for RJL's 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year.  We have special permission to nominate anyone with TWO years or more in CISD.  Nominations are due by Friday, October 30.  Remember to include as much detail as possible because we will score each form submitted with a district rubric and can only score what is written in the responses. PLEASE PUT THE PERSON'S NAME ONLY in the nomination box.  For the other responses DO NOT put their name.  This helps us judge based on what is written and not the person.

LEEDERSHIP COUNCIL

Please give your LEEder a few minutes to come back and talk with your class.  They will inform your learners about our norms and treasurer, secretary, VP and President.  We will share their "big ideas" in our next meeting on November 5.  Please remind them to wear their shirt.  THANK YOU!

THANK YOU for planning to attend the dance.  Please remind your learners to sign their name (once) on the butcher paper on the wall that matches your house color.  We need your help reminding them to write their REAL name (sadly, issues last year).  The house with the greatest attendance will win a surprise.  Designers, sign up, too!  Dancing with designers will happen at 7:15.  Beware...you are going to need to "shake it" to win!!!  The winning house for Write a Check donations will be announced at the end.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week.  Please encourage your learners to participate in each Spirit Day.

• Monday:  “Love Yourself”- Wear as much RED as you can. 
• Tuesday: “Follow your Dreams” – It’s PJ Day! 
• Wednesday: “Be Strong and Confident!”- Wear your work-out clothes to support a healthy lifestyle. 
• Thursday: “The Heart of the Matter”- Learners will digitally share or bring in a photo of their family.
• Friday: “Show Your Character”- Learners will bring their favorite book and come dressed to school as their book character.

NEED YOUR FEEDBACK
We have the opportunity to bring Write From the Beginning and Beyond to our school for support and training.  It could potentially be during the school day, or after the school day.  If it is after the school day, we will pay you for your time.  Please comment here if you are interested/not interested in WFTBB support as you grow as a designer.


BOOK CHARACTER PARADE
Friday, after broadcast, we will have our Book Character Parade.  If the weather cooperates, we will make two passes around the track.  Those who did not participate can sit along the inside loop of the track and cheer on our participants.  If the weather does not cooperate, we will walk through the building and learners can sit along the walls as we pass through the PreK hall, in front of the office, through yellow house, then red house, through the cafe, and past Art.


RED HOUSE MUSIC PERFORMANCE DRESS REHEARSAL 
Thursday will be our school dress rehearsal for our Red House Music program.  Please bring your classes down to the cafe at 8:30.  We will practice audience etiquette and celebrate the hard work of our Red House learners and Mrs. Benson.

Boy what a fast week this has been!  Thank you for your hard work and positivity.  I promise I still work in CISD!!  I will be at Principal's Institute today and start my morning at Admin on Friday.  I will be at school by 9:00.

WRITE A CHECK

Our Write a Check campaign is in full swing.  YOU are an integral part of helping to make this a successful fundraising event for our school.  Money raised will help with adding projector carts to houses, pay for transportation for house field trips, bringing in visiting authors, and MORE.  Please hype this up to your learners and help get 100% of your acknowledgment forms back in.  The Golden Boot will be on display for the house collecting the most money.  We will share totals, daily, on morning broadcast.  Popcorn parties will be provided to every classes that have 100% of their acknowledgement forms returned.

CAMPUS VISITS
We will have multiple important campus visits next week.   Please make sure that your displays of learning are current and have a description with the learning objective posted alongside it.  Please, also make sure that your learning objectives are posted in a visible place for each lesson.  Lastly, be sure there is evidence of Challenge Based Learning in your space.  If you have any questions, please ask me.


REPORT CARDS
As you begin working on report cards for the first nine weeks, please remember to include a citizenship grade in each subject and a personalized comment for each learner.  "Chantel is a joy to have in class" is not personal and does not convey to parents that you KNOW their child.  Also, if you have learners below a 70 or receiving IPS's, please plan on having a problem solving conversation with Chantel.


TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Please use the following link to nominate a colleague for RJL's 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year.  We have special permission to nominate anyone with TWO years or more in CISD.  Nominations are due by Friday, October 30.  Remember to include as much detail as possible because we will score each form submitted with a district rubric and can only score what is written in the responses.  PLEASE PUT THE PERSON'S NAME ONLY in the nomination box.  For the other responses DO NOT put their name.  This helps us judge based on what is written and not the person.

LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

Please send learners down to the flex area of the media center following morning broadcast, on Thursday.  They will need to bring their signed LEEdership Council Constitution and up to 3 ideas for needed improvement from your class. They will need a small amount of time to share when they return from our meeting.  THANK YOU! 


CAFETERIA EXPECTATIONS
Thank you for firming up your cafeteria procedures.  We will be adding recycling signs and table numbers as soon as our sign holders are delivered.  


SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE
We hope you plan on joining us, next Friday night, for our school dance.  This event has been on the calendar since August and it means the world to your children and their families to see you there.  Please feel free to bring your loved ones so they can join in on the fun.  Breaking news: there may be a hay ride!!


SPIRIT RALLY
Please come down to the gym as soon as your learners are unpacked.  We would like to begin promptly at 8:05.  If you are new, please ask your house leaders where grades sit.   There will be a teacher event....so be READY!  Also, please review our school song with your learners before Friday.
