Week of October 5, 2026

What an incredible staff you are! Thank you for showing Dr. Shivers, Mr. Hilton, and our Board members what great math instruction looks like at Lee.  I am ALWAYS so proud to walk guests through our building and let them see you in action. Wednesday was no exception. The intentional instruction, learner engagement, collaboration, questioning, and high expectations happening were on full display. You don’t just talk about high levels of learning for ALL. You make it happen every single day. It is such a privilege to be your principal and your biggest cheerleader.  THANK YOU!

DID YOU KNOW:

  • that a purchase order has been submitted for grades for StemScopes Foundations kits for each of your sections?  Once they arrive, we will get these in your hands.  Due to pricing, we will get the K-2 and 3-5 Fluency Kits next year.  I hope this support helps remove the barrier of making so many copies.
  • your staff badge gets you +1 into district varsity sport events, including football?
  • that all CISD employees should be able to access the Amazon app that is in the “My Applications” menu in SSO?  This doesn't mean we can take care of your personal shopping cart, but we CAN use this to assist Amy with orders through Amazon.  Video directions are HERE.  Name your cart with your last name and the date.  I still need a paper copy to code and for documentation, but you can share lists with Amy, as well as emailing the PO to her.

WORLD DAY OF BULLYING PREVENTION
October is National Bullying Prevention Month and the first Monday of every October is World Day of Bullying Prevention.  On this day students, schools, and communities all over the world go BLUE together against bullying.  We want you and your learners to join us to stop bullying and cyberbullying by wearing a blue shirt with your jeans on Monday.

THANK YOU LEARNING COACH
October 6 is National Instructional Coaches Day.  Join me in thanking Julie for leading us all so well.  We appreciate her, loads!

FALL PICTURE DAY
We will begin school pictures immediately following the morning broadcast at 8:00 AM in the cafeteria.
Staff Photos:
  • Specials and Support Staff: Please take your photos between 7:40–8:00 AM.
  • Teachers may take pictures with their class if they do not get a chance before school.
Order of Pictures:
  • We will follow the Specials schedule, beginning with Kinder Purple, 1st Purple, 2nd Purple, and continuing until all of Purple House is complete.
  • Then we will move through houses in this order: Yellow → Red → Blue → Green
  • If needed, please host indoor recess to help keep learners “fresh.”
Logistics in the Cafe:
  • Specials Designers: If your class is not finished by your Specials time, you may be asked to wait with them in the cafeteria.
  • Please bring your learners to the cafeteria quickly when volunteers come to get you. Your delay slows down the entire process.
  • Once half of your class is finished, you may return to your classroom. Volunteers will send the remaining learners back when they are done.
Tips for a Smooth Day:
  • Learners should wear their ID badges before arriving at the photographer to speed things up.  They can show it to the photographer and clip to their back or hold in their hand when the picture is taken.
Thank you for your flexibility with schedules and routines (teaching, lunch, recess, and Specials) on this day.  Reagan and Rikki, we will make sure volunteers come and get your learners as well.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Look at the graphic above to see how missing school can impact your learner initially and over time! As you make vacation plans this year, remember that missing school can impact your child's learning and success, and it also affects attendance laws. Please schedule trips following the holidays on the CISD academic calendar to ensure compliance and support your child's education. An online absence note is required for any part of the day that a student is missing from school: an hour, a half day, a full day.  For your convenience, this is the link to the online absence note form:  School Absence Note

RESPECT AGREEMENTS
October 13 starts the 2nd 9 weeks.  Please build time in your SS lesson design, for the week of October 13, to include time to revisit and update your respect agreements with your classes.  Any new copies or changes should be uploaded in Lee Links.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
Speaking of a new 9 weeks, remember to review digital citizenship with your class.  Revisiting digital citizenship conversations throughout the year helps to keep a healthy digital classroom environment.  Common Sense Media is a fabulous resource for supporting children as they navigate the waters of digital learning.  Please make sure any new learners to your class have signed your digital citizenship contracts hanging in your spaces.

MORNING / CLASS MEETINGS
Class circles are going to help learners (and you) as we maintain relationships.  THEY ARE A REQUIREMENT IN CISD.  They provide social/emotional support in your space.  You should have a structure within the class meeting to foster authentic relationships, provide safety for everyone's voice to be heard and allow vulnerability to occur.  Class meetings build secure relationships in a safe and structured setting.  Remember to be completing your Second Step lessons once a week.

REPORT CARD COMMENTS

As you work on adding comments for K-3 report cards, remember that comments can extend beyond the classroom and influence a child's self-esteem, motivation, and future learning experiences.  Meaningful comments can inspire life long love of learning and personal growth.  Need some ideas or a place to start?  Here are some.  You might be interested in Magic School AI tools to assist you as well.

WALKTHROUGHS AND OBSERVATIONS IN OCTOBER

Kudos to those of you that have already had your formal TTESS observation and for others who are planning for their observations.  What awesome visits we have had so far!  For this month, we will be giving you feedback on Domain 2.5:  Monitor and Adjust during walkthroughs.  We will be looking for:

  • How you adjust instruction and activities to maintain student engagement (movement, music, manipulatives, small groups and individual work, conferences with learners).

  • How you address learner engagement/disengagement.

  • Questioning and feedback used to check for understanding.

  • How you use a variety of assessment/input from learners to gather data.

  • Checks for understanding through purposeful questioning and feedback.

  • The pacing of the lesson.

LEARNER-LED CONFERENCE DAY
Please start sending home parent sign ups for Fall Conferences. (This can be worked on, on Friday)  Did you know Parent Square works for scheduling?  Julie would be happy to show you how.  Let our Admin Team, Angela, SPED, or MLI know if you want any of us to support you during your conferences.  Remember that these are learner-led conferences, even for our youngest of friends.  Thank you for supporting our campus goal and CISD's core value of collective engagement.  Here are my expectations for Lee Learner Led Conferences along with links to MAP parent letters, MAP videos, and MAP and mClass teacher resources from CISD.  Thank you, Cassie, for sharing this resource with the campus as well!

  • parents can start joining their learners for lunch on Friday, October 2?  Please share the  Friday Lunch sign up in your weekly newsletter and remind them of the importance of signing up ahead of time for each visit.  No photos of learners should be taken during Friday FamiLEE Lunch and guests can only bring in food for their own learner.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Parents and guardians, please note: Texas law requires students to attend school each day that instruction is provided. According to Education Code Sec. 25.093, unexcused absences on 10 or more days (or part of days) is considered a Class C misdemeanor. Let's work together to ensure all students attend school regularly and comply with state attendance laws.

PARENT LEARNING WALKS
As part of our campus Parent Engagement goal and a strategy in our Campus Improvement Plan, the last Thursday of every month, Mrs. Kastrounis will host a community learning walk at Lee.  This month the walk will be from 8:00-9:00 on Thursday, September 24 and parents planning to attend should arrive with their ID to check in at 7:50.

I know this should go unsaid, but please make sure that during this time your learners are engaged in meaningful learning experiences.  What do I mean by "meaningful learning experiences?" This means small group instruction, hands on experiences, your class engaged in varied activities (not all doing the same exact thing and all on an iPad).  These learning walks are a fabulous way to showcase the incredible learning in our building and also to erase misconceptions about Lee and public education.

CELEBRATE OUR INCREDIBLE TEAM

We have so much great teaching happening at Lee Elementary.  Please take time to nominate a peer for Super Teacher recognition by Sept. 25. Learn more about what makes a teacher a Super Teacher by browsing the "Looks Fors" at visiting www.coppellisd.com/page/super-teachers.
