Week of May 8, 2023

Have an incredible weekend, sweet ladies.  Enjoy this week of Teacher Appreciation.  We LOVE and ADORE you beyond words and so does our PTO! You are such a talented and dedicated bunch and are cared for so very much!

DID YOU KNOW:
  • some of you still need to sign walkthrough forms or your summative documents? Please go in Perform PL and make sure you have done this.
  • if you have one or more GT learners that you need to complete the accommodation Google Form from Ayesha? Please refer to an email that she sent earlier in the week for more information. Thank you to the MANY of you who have already completed the form!
  • we are having massive issues with trash around our school. Please encourage learners to pick up after themselves and leave our school better than they found it. I see problems in restrooms, classrooms, the playgrounds, and our cafeteria.
  • from May 15-17th our campus will have window security film installed on all ground level windows and glass.  Please remove anything on the windows or window seats. The films are applied with a detergent and water solution and can take 30 days to cure.  It may appear to have water bubbles, this is normal.  Please DO NOT WASH the film. I would encourage no window seats the last two weeks to avoid damage to the film as it cures.

FIELD DAY
Please permit learners to eat breakfast in your learning spaces because the cafeteria will be set up and used for one of the zones.  Please make sure whatever movie you show your class/house is rated "G" and NOT DISNEY.  In addition, please make sure that ANY adult you see outside has a Field Day Sticker or Raptor sticker on them.  Vanessa is putting Field Day Visitor stickers in your box to place on parents that join your group.  All guests MUST wear a guest sticker.  If you see someone without a sticker, please ASK .

Staff, you may wear appropriate shorts and hats on this day.  I know bike shorts are in...if you wear them...your shirt should be long enough to cover you up. Don't forget to wear your "schedule necklace" to keep everyone on track.  Remind your girls that they can wear one piece swimsuits, no bikinis.  All kids should bring a change of clothes.

Please share this graphic below with your FamiLEEs.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Each of you are loved and appreciated so very much.  Our fabulous PTO has planned an extra special week for you!  Please share these plans with your FamiLEEs so they can join in on the celebration.  We will make daily announcements when breakfast, treats, lunch, etc are ready each day.

EOY ASSESSMENTS

Please ensure that all End of the Year Assessments are completed by Friday, May 19th, 2023. EOY assessments include both MAP (K-5) and mClass (K-2). Please let Samira know if you need support with small group testing. She would be more than happy to test learners for you.

END OF YEAR UPDATES AND TASKS
Team time will continue through May 10.  During the last cycle of Team Time, please use this time to inventory closets, get done with assessments, work on report card comments, pull staples out of walls ;) and all other end of year tasks.  Thank you to our wonderful Specials Team for continuing to take learners during this time.

Here is the  EOY Checklist.  Please make a copy on your iPad and check off items when you complete them.  We will ask you to email your completed checklists on the last week of school.  The link is live for your Furniture Inventory and you may want to wait until the last week of school to complete that portion as a House.  Please do not work on EOY tasks during teaching time.  It is important to me that we "teach until the last day at Lee." You can use before school, conference time, after school and your Team Time to wrap up these tasks. Shared Curriculum List.

COACHES CORNER

Thank you to those who took time to fill out this form. I would love to cover one of your lunch/recess duties in exchange for your honest and intentional feedback. My mind always starts dreaming about next year during the last month of school. I try to reflect on what went well and what I can do to make things better. Since my role is so heavily connected to yours and our campus, I'd love to hear from you. Please fill out this form by Monday (May 8th, 2023) to receive duty coverage. Thank you so much. I appreciate YOU! For those who have already filled it out, I messaged you when I would cover your duty. It can also be found on “Connect with the Coach”. I will share the results and my action steps on Tuesday May 9th.

Let’s collaborate! Sign up so we can work together.

ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
Utilize writing partners to help your EBs grow in their English proficiency. Partnering an EB who’s in the beginning or intermediate levels of English writing would benefit from being partnered with one that is Advanced or Advanced-High. This allows both learners to benefit from learning from each other, and be able to relate to one another on both having learned English as their second language. Be sure that writing partner time is guided by strong content and language objectives.

STAFFING UPDATES
We have made recommendations for two more candidates.  Once they are Board approved we will introduce them to you.  Stay tuned.

ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
Don’t underestimate (or forget!) the power of choral reading. Choral reading allows EBs to practice their reading fluency, pronunciation, and their ability to read sight words. Not only that, but it gives a safe space for mistakes to be made since they are doing it with a group of learners. This practice can help build their self confidence with reading. All readers will benefit from this simple practice!

ESL STRATEGY OF THE WEEK
Provide opportunities for free write time. This helps lower the affective filter when EBs approach writing in English, especially those that may have some anxiety around writing specifically. If you have an EB who is Beginning or Intermediate, allow some of their writing to include pictures or copying words. This is still helping them to grow in their English proficiency.
